They started out as a small group of sportsmen who wanted to share their
love of the outdoors and, in particular, pheasant hunting.
Now, on their 25th anniversary, Pheasants for the Future in Minot is
expecting its biggest annual meeting ever - with over 1,000 expected to
attend tonight's event.
Chapter members were busy getting the convention hall at Minot's Holiday Inn
ready today - ready for the group to reach the one thousand milestone...
(Jason Foss, Pheasants for the Future) "We have seating for over a thousand
people, we're giving away over 70 guns, a lot of beautiful prints, we have a
live puppy on the auction, we have some great furniture, clothing for sale,
and lots of memorabilia and lots of hunting and fishing and outdoor
supplies."
Foss says the group has four main areas of concern related to wildlife
habitat and pheasant hunting.
(Jason Foss, Pheasants for the Future) "The youth hunting - it's important
to get the kids involved and active for the next hundred years, forever. And
we also have a habitat program we're real strong in in keeping good habitat
out there for all wildlife. And we have a chick distribution and adult birds
to get the birds out there in the habitat since North Dakota winters can be
tough on wildlife. And we have a feed distribution program where we supply
members feed at our cost just to keep the pheasants going through tough
North Dakota winters."
You still have time to get to the Pheasants for the Future 25th anniversary
banquet.
The meal is served tonight at seven with the auction and prize giveaway
beginning at eight at Minot's Holiday Inn.
