Pheasant Release Program |
|
|
Last year, Pheasants for the Future, Inc. purchased over 15,000
day-old pheasant chicks for the club members to raise and
release in North Dakota. Board members also raise several
hundred chicks each spring and release these birds on public
hunting lands including the Youth Hunting area.

|
Winter Feed Program |
|
|
Pheasants
for the Future, Inc. provides feed for members to distribute to
help pheasants survive through the long winter months. This feed
is a combination of wheat and barley screenings, lentils, peas,
corn, and sunflowers, and is provided to members at cost. We
also provide feed barrels free of charge to help disburse the
feed.

| Habitat Programs |
|
|
|
We are always looking for ways to help landowners develop
and improve suitable habitat for pheasants and wildlife that
is accessible to public hunting. We assist landowners with
cost-sharing programs to plant trees and food plots. The
following is a list of our sponsored/co-sponsored Habitat
projects:

Youth Programs & Handicap Programs |
|
We contribute money
each year to youth shooting and wildlife programs. Programs
listed below are available to the younger members of Pheasants
for the Future, Inc.
Future Farmers of America
Our organization donates day-old pheasant
chicks to area Future Farmers of America (FFA) clubs for
members to raise and release.
Minot Youth Hunting Area
Pheasants
for the Future, Inc., concentrated on establishing hunting
opportunities for our area youths by improving access
and game bird availability. Through the generosity of
the Doug Hauge family, 453 acres of land, consisting of
CRP grasses, tree plots, and food plots, is available
for youth hunting. Access is limited to walk-in traffic
only and is restricted to youth that are accompanied by
an adult member of Pheasants for the Future. The adult
may not carry a gun, but dogs are allowed during bird
season. This area has abundant wildlife consisting of
beaver, deer, waterfowl, and of course pheasant. To
ensure adequate opportunities to see and shoot pheasant,
Pheasants for the Future provide winter feed to the area
pheasants and also release at least 250 birds each
spring.
Berthold Youth Hunting Area
We saw the success of the Minot
Youth Hunting Area and had the opportunity to establish
a Youth Hunting Area in Berthold. Again it was a
member's generosity and interest in area youth that
initiated the actions. The Doug Stevick family provides
300 acres consisting of native grasses, heavy brush, and
sloughs for youth hunting. Access is through the Stevick
farmyard, is limited to walk-in traffic only, and is
restricted to youth that are accompanied by an adult
member of Pheasants for the Future. The adult may not
carry a gun, but dogs are allowed during bird season. In
addition to the natural wildlife available at the site,
Pheasants for the Future releases adult and young
pheasants each spring.
Youth Summer Fishing Camp
We sponsor two youngsters at
the Triangle Y's summer camp. This camp program is
intended to introduce area youth to the outdoor
opportunities available in the area.
Youth Shooting Programs
We contribute annually to the
Minot Gun Club for their youth hunter education and
shooting program. The North Dakota Jaycees State
Shooting Program for Youths also receives our support.
Camp Owettii - Girl Scouts
Pheasants for the Future contributes to campground
improvements for the
Girl Scouts of
Northwest North Dakota.
Tri-County 4H Shooting Trailer (Ward, McHenry,
Mountrail)
Our organization contributed to the purchase
of a mobile shooting trailer to teach young shooters
safely.
